Colonel Marbles Miniature Masterworks - APRIL 2004

Part 2

Dark-Age new releases are out the door! Expect to see them in your local stores soon. - Artemis Black

Wow, that Air Arbiter is the dog's! Brood Gaz is pretty hot too, someone has taken a lot of time to get that right. Bit underwhelmed by the Bone Doc... maybe it just isn't very exciting by comparison. - Doc

Gazelle (leaping green) is scary cool. Watch out Island of Dr. Moreau. - Mancha

The gazelle looks a bit similar to the female demon Freebooter put out a couple months back. Not that that is in any way a bad thing. - The Imp

It should do, Werner sculpted the gazelle and his own demon (In fact the gazelle was sculpted first so technically he sculpted the gazelle 'then' his own demon.)

Not a huge fan of most of DA range. Like only a few ins here and there. It has been a while since they have had any updates. Gazelle is the best of the bunch. - Ghost

Woah, another nice addition to the Dragyri range. I've checked out the rest of the bunch and despite their inhuman look they are very feminine.. I wish they were a bit smaller. The Gazelle is awesome - and kinda scary... But an excellent sculpt none-the-less.. - Catinator

Renegade WWI Brit Cavalry with gasmasks. - jakar Nilson

Love 'em. Almost tempted to buy a set just to paint one of them. Anyone in the US want to go in halvsies with me? Notice, BTW, that the horse has a gasmask as well. - Mancha

You know, these would also be perfect for my Anarchist army...

Awesome! These will go nice with my warzone Trenchers. Or in some Grim Darkness style imp. guard army.... More gasmasks, yes! - Area23

Excelsior - Chronopia : Forgotten:

"One of the key Devout units now has figures on the way. The first of two sculpts has been approved and we couldn't be happier with how they are turning out. Since the Forgotten are influenced in their design by the Cenobytes of Hellraiser, we felt it only appropriate that their sculptor do our pieces.

JB came through with flying colors. We are posting the first of two sculpts as well as the concept art they were based upon. We should see their complete pack for sale by the end of the month.- Excelsior"

- Colonel Marbles

Hurrah! A devout without huge shoulder pads!

I concur! I hated those shoulderpads! And they inflict so many models in the range! This figure looks really good - reminds me of those Confrontation Clones. - frotherGuest

Some pretty decent sculps coming out of this range. I agree with you guys and hope that this incarnation of Chronopia will be without the huge shoulder guards that was almost a trademark on this miniature range. - Ghost

Crazy stuff. Better quality that I expected as well. I hope the rest of Excelsior's new stuff is of equal merit. - The Imp

I have to give in - I'm a big Chronopia/Warzone fan, but I try to stay critical as well. The figs coming out lately that actually landed on my desk are of great detail and quality. They seem to get better. - Catinator

Some new greens from frothersculptor Adam Winters. - White knight

"First off is a 30mm Beastman. The tail is detachable. I started to sculpt this as a test piece for I-Kore but with their history I think i'll be steering clear of them! Then a 30mm Dungeon Jailer. I wanted the jailer to look as tho he was a bit of a mutant, thus the hunchback and massive hand. Finally there are 3 pics of some Wood spirits I've done. Once again 30mm." - Adam Winters

I like the forest chick a lot. I would definitely buy that one. - Jenova

Very nice, especially the beastman and the third wood spirit. Hope they get released. - Bloodfinger

I don't think I was ever keen on the Fomorian beastmen in the first place, but the Dryad does look good. I'm sensing a theme coming up...

Nice work all around. I think they would fit very well with Heresy's range. I wonder if Andy Foster is in the market for any help...

They look great, but the Jailer is a bit too deformed (the arm)... The woodland spirits are great, hope to see them on my workdesk one day

First a big thanks to WK for all his help posting the pictures. Secondly many thanks to all who have posted their views. Its extremely hard to know where you're going right (the wood spirits) and where you are going wrong (the jailers hand) at times. - Adamski

Magnificent Ego's Greens and Painted Metals. Please let me know what you think. I love you guys! - Magnificent Ego

All very nice. The little dragon ( second image ) is supreb. Looks crisp and has loads of character. The painted ones are ver sharp to. No too sure about the pose of the last one but i think its probably just the angle of the photo. All in all a tasty little bunch.

The riding beast looks neat. Can it be aquired seperatly?

They all look great sculpts to me. You love us? Thats scary

I like the figs a lot, but the painted pics aren't very good. It's very hard to see the details and the paintjob.

Very nice!!!. Really like these sculpts. I have been checking the site an have seen the artwork and looks like you guys are staying true to those renditions. Looking forward to more greens from you guys. - Ghost

Like the last fellah - very 'Brotherhood of the Wolf', but its probably just the hat. The pose is perhaps a tad 'off' - summat not quite right about the legs? I'd've preferred him with shooters rather than shivs though, but cool all the same. - UncEvl

New Aegyptus green....ok it's only one new green but it's a cool one - Demonetrigan

'Tis very nice. Good to see muscle definition on the big guy and not just bulbous lumps of green so often associated with muscly figs.

Very very nice indeed.

Glad to see I'm not the only one getting tired of the Rackham-ish huge upper bodies and toothpick legs. It looks like a 54mm from the waist up and 25mm from the waist down. - Gubs

I can see where you're coming from. Bits are out of proportion to each other but that is surely the point.. Maybe a paint job will bring the figure "together" a bit. Either way I still think it's great.

The Flesh Hulk is silly because of the small head next to the large and the same relationship with the arms. I know why it's happening ("flesh golem"), but I think it's stupid that it is. It looks like someone's first conversion attempt.

Thats way harsh Mancha! I for one would consider the mini a failure if it was called 'flesh golem' and didn't look at all wierd!

I guess it just seems to me that the flesh golem interpretation has become kind of hackneyed. I'd like to see a fresh take on it. Or maybe I've just never liked flesh golems to start with.

Not sure about the flesh hulk but I really like the torturer. I can always find room for an emaciated, nasty looking beastman thing with a pair of pliers and a gutting knife! I guess they will be sold as a pair though.

Confrontation, a shitload of stuff coming up.

Hey it looks like Rackham got their mojo back !! That giant is weird though. The new Sassia looks a must-buy to me.

Ditto on the giant there. Just what a really tall guy needs -- a really tall hat! It's like he was being sucked through a keyhole into another universe and just got stretched out. But Samaris -- yes, a must buy. Though I've been coveting them for ages, that one will finally get me into the Confrontation fold. - Kwailung

I like the cyclops, and the Orc looks cool - but what the hell's going on with that giant's head? - UncEvl

I'm bucking the trend here. That's the coolest giant I've ever seen. I don't care if the head is small...they're not reputed to be that bright anyways. - Ohkier

I like the giant as well. I think the really weird proportions fit really well and make it llok like something other than just a really huge human. - Gloria Invictus

Nice that he has a clock as a magic talisman.
"And der hands go rownd, an day tells yer the time."
"Oooo! Give it me!"
"No, is too majik fer yoo." - Doc

Aaaah, cute li'l baby Cyclops! - Von Bork

That giant.... must have. I really, really like it. Its just soooo different. It took a little while to grow on me but I'm completely sold. The only thing I'm not too sure about is how he's holding the axe but a bit of green stuff and a bit of swearing should fix that...

I love the giant, to me he looks like he comes from the world of Dr Seuss! The cyclops is ace too, although a pain to paint with all those little stitches. Good job I'd probably never even get as far as assembling him then.

That painted Giant looks pretty amazing! I wonder how much of it is the great paint job? Mr Canuck

There are a bunch of new Fenryll releases. Most of them are for their characatures line, but the cyborg is okay, and the "Le Golbarg" at the bottom is kind of cool (stated by someone who also likes Growler Pups).

The Forset Giant, the Guillotine and the Dolphin Rider are all very nice. The latter will fit nicely with the aquatic stuff coming from those "50 Fathoms" guys.... - The Masked Frother

Whoa, I hadn't seen the dolphin rider. The rays (or are they skates?) are great!

Very cool! - Miniature Atlas

3 new Khador figs for Warmachine - Exile

The Kovnic is everything I hate in miniature design. Chunky and disproportionate with a weapon that is rediculously huge. Not a good day for Privateer in my opinion.

Got to agree here. Although, I like the standard bearer.

I have to agree I find the figs a disappointment. - Exile

Not really floating my boat either.

they all have a 'retro' charm to them. - frotherguest

Alternate Armies Goblins on Dodos...? They look silly, they might look like they come out from a certain Jim Henson movie, and boy do they look like they might be perfect opponents against halflings on badgers...

Hey! These'll go great with my Aardvarks, Killer Penguins, ducks, etc. Or would be real handy for a Labyrinth based game if someone would do a Jennifer Connelly figure. Mmm, Jennifer Connelly's figure... - Killer Bob

Bit shite though aren't they.

Are the riders separate from the mounts? 28mm Dodo's would certainly be useful. - The Masked Frother

That's some pretty wierd shit, man. If only Alternative Armies would get a decent sculptor.

They look pretty servicable to me, certainly better than a majority of AA's output. Lack of faces might help there of course. What the problem? Not Rackham enough for you?

Quite like the little buggers. There's something about ickle goblin armour that always cracks me up. Reminded me a little of the Warrior(I think) Goblin Wolf Riders with those helmets. - Rev Nice

More figures - Magnificent Ego

Sweet! Loved the second one more than the first. Right up my street! - miniphreek

Great pose on the guy with the hawk!

I agree, that second one is a real winner. The first one is a bit dark and hard to make out, but from what I can see it's a good'un also. Now to create a bunch of fake accounts and pump yourself up a bit a la BTD - Aaron

yeh hawk guy is excellent

the hawk dude is nice ,but his feet look a little small.maybe thats due to the angle of the pic. - frotherquest

Rippers pictures up on Pinnacle's website. Some nice miniatures but some lousy paint jobs

Apart from the protagonists, our suspitions about these being West Wind Gothic Horror miniatures are confirmed...

Sci-fi from Freebooter, I like her. Granted, her face is kind of odd, but her stance is simply amazing. Glad to see, also, that she has a metal gun; more gun-toters on the way I trust!

I concur, stance is great, body is very well done. don't like the mask, but it'll probably be improved with painting. hate the size of the gun - a nimble assassin should be carrying "finer" weapons not a bazooka.

Just imagine someone about to take a ninja kick in the balls... After which, she'll spin 'round and hose down a half-dozen or so of the baddies with that "bazooka." What? Didn't you guys see Kill Bill? - The Masked Frother

I still like the stance. She looks like shes about to jam an instep kick square into some poor bastard's throat. The rifle kind of reminds me of some of the art out of Palladiums Phase World supplement for Rifts. A damned awful game, but some of the best graphics in the game industry. Imagining it made of ultralight carbon fiber and plastic suspends a little of my disdain towards its size. I hope they show off the other two soon and that these will be made available to the general public soon after the show. - The Imp

Some nice heresy painted figures. The face of boris is much better than the old one. Shame I just bought the old one recently. - fatgoblin

Bondage slave Boris...should go well with some Hasselfree ladies. Or a slightly converted Thrud. - rob

New Copplestone Neo-Sovs, not to mention a third cavemen blister...

I love the new cave-men, but the neo-soviets look a lot like I expect good old soviets to look. Are drum magazines going to be the way of the future?

Well, they aren't Vor Neo-Sovs, but Gipsy Neo-Sovs, so I guess they are supposed to look a bit retro...

They may not be Vor Neo-Sovs, but I like them. In fact I might even use them for Rad Troopers for my Neo-Sovs. - CmdrKiley

No my anti-globalist squatter anarcho scavengers have someone to fight against ànd with! I've been thinking too about some NATO squads. Of course they only shoot when shot at, as a special rule. - Area 23

My little pony, from Ebob. - Ebob

I like that pony alot Ebob. I am very tempted. - Chronofus

Really nice. Particularly when you bear in mind the number of shoddy neddies on the market (EE elven mounts - GAAA!!!) - Monkey Fighter

Great pony - notbill, loads of character. - frotherguest

New Warmachine Helljack.

Absolutely tyranidable

Hmm, a Cryx I can actually like (Khador designs remain my favorite...) (Although the faction I just can't like seems to be Melnoth...)

Woah.. A terror from the depth... A very menancing fig, if a bit out of the line of the other figs. Not a major pain though.. - Catinator

I like it. It's more alien than the other helljacks. Really it may be the only Cryx warjack that I like at all.

Heresy News:

"I've found the time to put the new Thrud the Barbarian model and the excellent new Monstrous Spider (by debuting sculptor Mike Thorp) on the pre-orders section of the catalogues. Go check them out now!

Gosh, thats a great spider, definitely the finest Ive seen. from what ive seen it looks a lot better than another unnamed Giant spider about to be release from another company. Very timely release I might add. - frotherguest

Very timely release I might add. Yes, they are much nicer than a certain company's upcoming 'VeryLargeFilmRelatedAncientSpider(tm)' I bought both leg variants. It's amazing how different you can make 'em look by reposing the 2 sets of legs. The downside is that it's a bitch to pin all those legs in place (4 hours of drilling later...) - larva_uk

It is a very good, plausible looking spider. Which means i want to hit it with a brick.

It looks awesome with the longer legs. Somebody post a shot of it with the short legs so I know whether I want both, please.

It looks awesome on the picture as well. At the time I checked it out I've just heard a loud "Iiiiick" from our young female colleague... her first thought was it is real despite the colours... It seems I must have one on my workdesk... - Catinator

Some previews of Tom Meier's new goblin range. Beautifully sculpted as always, especially the faces. A more "realistic" goblin, if you can have such a thing!

Hmmm...not sure about these - can't say that I'm a big fan of nekkid gobbos - chainmail would be ideal, but even some suitably shabby robes would be ok.... The sword-wielder is unimpressive all-round, imo, but the archer has a great pose and a jolly good face. - Grom

oh no.... i began collecting goblins because of Tom's Ral Partha Goblins 20 years ago... it was all his fault - i swear! Now he's making more?! hrmph. BTW, I love em. - GoblinPalace

I have no problem with goblin nakedness but they do look weird walking around with their calvin kliens.... I quite like all the elements of the two goblins, the anatomy and equipment design, pose and face. But I can tell it will be bloody hard to paint. It doesn't look like it will take green well either.... Which of course is not a criticism.

Very well thought out, brilliant in fact. They look properly evil, loathesome, treacherous, vicious, and disgusting. I like them.

I like them. He does say in newsletter "These were mainly done as anatomical studies so they have very little equipment and the poses are very ordinary." I hope that means there are others... - Dave

I like them a lot. But I agree with some of the comments already made, they could do with armour and stuff. Why does he always have to make such nice toys? Whenever I think I'll make something, he comes along and does it better. - Hasslefreisian

The more stuff I see out of this line the more I like it. Not so much for rank and file wargaming, but definitely RPG characters. The proportions and details are much more suitable to that application in my opinion.

Can't say I'm that impressed mesen - certainly not a patch on the elves. I think its just that Tom's delictae style suits them much more. But then I never liked his RP goblins much either. I mainly find the posing a bit awkward, especially on the big Goblin. Looks like he should have a bucket in each hand or summat.

I really like them a lot, I love the face on that archer. This is going to be a great line. I actually don't mind some of them running around with no armour on, but I think loin clothes would look better than fruit-of-the-looms, and I think it would make even more sense for them to be nekkid..........maybe they got tired of the pointing and laughing? - frotherguest
